Handwriting:
When to be Concerned
>The child holds and manipulates the pencil in a way that is significantly delayed for his/her age or uses a maladaptive grip.
>The child exhibits poor letter formation AND at least one of the following:
- The handwriting is messy or illegible.
- Spacing or size of letters or words make the writing difficult to read.
- The child slumps or lays across the desk during writing activities (fatigues easily)
- The child's written output is significantly below that of his or her peers
- The child complains of his or her hand being tired in a short period of time.
- Number or letter reversals consistently seen past the 2nd grade.
- Behavioral issues frequently displayed when asked to write.
